Safeguarding children and young people from sexual exploitation Comprehensive multi-agency training for professionals & practitioners (Levels 1,2,3 & 4)

The sexual exploitation of children and young people (CSE) is a growing issue in the UK. It can ruin childhood and cause lasting damage in every aspect of a young person’s life. Everyone working with children, young people and families has a responsibility to be aware of CSE and the role they can play in helping to prevent it and put a stop to it.
Who will benefit from this training?
All professionals and practitioners working with children, young people and families and those with particular responsibilities for preventing or investigating child sexual exploitation.
Training aims and outcomes
This course addresses the first four levels of training recommended in the DCSF’s report “Working together to Safeguard Children” and includes guidance from the DCSF’s “Safeguarding Children and Young People from Sexual Exploitation”.
Delegates will be able to:
• Define child sexual exploitation and put it in context against normal child development
• Recognise many of the typical indicators
• Understand commonly used grooming tactics, the child’s perspective and behaviour
• Know what to do in response to concerns
• Adopt a proven tool for communicating concerns and gathering information
• Discuss opportunities for improving multi-agency working in relation to CSE
• Identify factors that increase vulnerability to CSE
• Be aware of key aspects of the law relating to CSE and trafficking
• Develop their judgement in relation to assessing levels of harm arising from sexual exploitation
• Explore ways to deal with complex CSE cases and take appropriate emergency action
• Understand how to build trust and promote engagement with children, young people and families
• Access authoritative information and training resources relating to good practice
